Cod 4 - Change to UAV availability

So I have some thoughts to share regarding cod 4 servers! Since the servers (I speak of Broadcast and Crossfire mostly) are often quite crowded, the UAV usages are frequent and the aspect of not having HUD/minimap in HC mode is rather lost. In my opinion, increasing UAV killstreak from 3 to 4 (Im thinking 4 - 6 - 8 for the overall streaks) or decrease the duration of UAV (ex: make it so that it only scan 1 or twice before going off) would make a more interesting HC experience. :smiley:

It will be a big nerf for players who using silencer and uav jammer, if the uav goes nerf as what you say.

I do not speak for silencer or uav jammer, actually It won’t affect me a lot if the uav goes nerf to a short time.

But I DO believe that the player who choose silencer or uav jammer, has paid enough, such as bad iron sight, weak 20 damage, weak wall bang damage etc.

I like the idea, and am also interested in increasing the score streak needed to get air / heli a bit as well. The servers is busy most of the day, and when it’s busy there are nearly back-to-back airstrikes across the front of the building. It often takes half of the game just to be able to call in a heli that you earn at the beginning.

It would suck a bit for those using uav jammer and/or silencer, but I don’t think that there are many players using those perks for broadcast TDM anyway. In an ideal world I would love to have the killstreak requirements increase once a certain number of players are on the server, say 14ish, but then revert back to default when the number of players is below that.

I spoke to St0rm about possibly making a few changes, but since it would require modding the game (it’s unfortunately not as easy just changing a few parameters), it has been shelved for the time being. It may be something I revisit at a later date though.

Valid points that you bring up! I would argue that with a crowded server like Broadcast and Crossfire, people have UAV often enough that some decreases in UAV availability would still make these perks/attachments options viable. Helicopters and airstrikes and uav stacked a lot in the servers, and often feedback to each other. I think since the damage in HC is great, people going with UAV Jammer/Silencer and would be fine (well, at least that’s what I feel, I’m using jammer and generally satisfied with the damage). Jammer also gives a big advantage by allowing players to sneak and move to surprise locations, while the damage output is still good. That I think is strong enough. (that’s just my opinion though, coming from a jammer player)

I would also say that for weapons that often get silencer (G3, Skorpion,…), silencer actually is a buff in some sense. Also, by having less UAVs, spawn-kills will be less of an issue since it allows the team to spawn more safely with less chance of being surrounded immediately when spawn.

The iron sights on some weapons tho yeah…

I think the real issue is not the classic killstreak numbers of 3-5-7 but that the servers are too busy. I am not complaining when I say this, but the game was built for 4v4/6v6 matches but today we play in lobbies with 20-30+ people, this breaks some of the games natural balance and design. Setting the killstreaks to 4-6-8 would not fix this. If you are able to pull a 3 kill streak you could pull a 4 almost as often, and with huge lobbies full of people somebody is sure to get that 4KS right at the start. This solution is like a reverse “hardline” perk, once I score my first kill it fixes nothing whilst rewarding stronger players even more. I could spawn, throw a grenade for a cheeky kill, place a claymore etc and now I just need to continue as normal for my streaks.

Unfortunately I don’t think you could fix this without overhauling the classic CoD4 system, which in my eyes would damage the experience in more ways than it would be improved. Your best bet is loading a class with UAV jammer. Playing a quieter server or different gamemode could help also, still not seen you in the S&D server come check it out <3 - on CoD4 SnD a killstreak is only counted for each round, unlike later titles. So if you get 6 kills one round, then another the next round you will get no helicopter, you needed all 7 within the same round. Might get a more enjoyable experience if you’re tired of 24/7 UAV’s & chaos as helicopters are very rare, airstrikes somewhat rare and UAV’s are not constant and have to be used tactically to win rounds rather than just clicking to get rid of it before your airstrike takes its place and you lose it. I think TDM is just meant to be a little crazy, but hey I am a mad man that doesn’t mind players using last stand, juggernaut or martyrdom - I’m a purist what the hell do I know. :sir:

I do feel like increasing killstreaks by a bit does help though as by any mean, it does force players to take more actions before getting to the killstreaks :stuck_out_tongue:. The chance of you getting killed in HC is high for a full lobby. Spamming killstreaks will get harder too. I do agree that straying too much away from vanilla cod 4 is not a good idea yeah.

I need to learn how to play SnD lol, keep getting killed at spawn / some esoteric spots and not being able to play makes me sad :ok: . I should join SnD more huh.

I’m fine with players using martydom/last stand/juggernaut too, so maybe I’m also a mad man :smiley:

Well I do agree that it increases the amount of actions taken for the streak, but I think it would be an artificial roadblock to your problem. Even if it does stop the occasional guy from streaking off, on average when considering it from the teams perspective and not the individuals it will not. Imagine I am on a 1 killstreak, and you are on a 4 - you get your UAV and then die. I can still use your UAV to step towards my own, not solving the issue of multiple teammates calling multiple UAVs back to back. Just my thoughts brother, not saying I have all the answers but increasing the numbers by 1 won’t solve it. You can’f fix crazy.

Best way to learn those spots is through playing SnD, even when you die you can spectate players doing better than you and learn nade/wallbang spots or opening routes for the next round. When lost just escort the bomb carrier or defend the objective.

Shipment frag x3 might be too much for me haha (depends on number of players). And yeah it’s definitely hard to balance this. I just feel that UAV can easily be the strongest killstreak to use in HC and having it less often might allow us to see some interesting changes in how people approaches the game? :smiley:
